Facebook introducing place tips in news feed

Coming soon: the new feature in your News Feed called place tips. Get more out of the places you visit. Place tips will show you fun, useful and relevant info about the place you’re at. Place tips may show up at the top of your News Feed when you’re out and about.

“From friends’ recommendations to information about the places and things that interest you. To better show you this content at just the right place and time”. That’s what Facebook said about the new feature in your news feed.

Tapping on place tips shows you a series of cards with info about the place you’re at. You’ll find posts and photos your friends have shared with you about that place when you choose to view place tips. You can also see information about the place, including posts from its Page, popular menu items and upcoming events. In short: everything about that place.

What’s in it for you as a marketer?

With the new feature in the News Feed, it is expected there is more use of the facility locations in Facebook. See what you can find on the place where you are at the moment, or check where you can eat the best sandwich of this place. On the advice of your friends. The new feature is probable to provide more interaction around the destination and your audiences’ interests, and give you more information to optimize your behavioural campaigns. Nice to know

Tapping on place tips won’t post on Facebook or show anyone where you are. You can turn place tips off or on at any time in your settings or just hide tips about specific places. Place tips only appear if you’ve given Facebook permission to access your location on your phone. Turn off at any time.

How place tips work

Your location is determined using cellular networks, Wi-Fi and GPS. Also place tips using Facebook Bluetooth beacons, which send a signal to your phone that helps us show you the right tips for the right place.
